Planes, trains, and automobiles
You know, vacations should be fun. And I have to say being in Disneyland and California Adventure was so fun. I don't think we really had that much of a problem. Most of the times we walked to the parks and then took the bus home. There was no problem there really. But the fact that I'm still sitting in the airport and have at least another hour and a half to wait for the plane, that's getting to me.
My mom and I decided to fly so that it wasn't a long drive and since our hotel was close it didn't seem necessary to have a car anyway. Flying just seemed the best way, we got there early, had a bus ride to the hotel, there was a bus to and from the parks. Nice and easy.
Wait for it...
What are we waiting for? The plane that should be taking us home. We didn't have a computer so we had to be at the airport a good couple hours early to check in and get our bags checked. Hotel checkout was at 11, and I think to get to the airport with enough time we had to get on the bus about 10:30. We had to transfer buses in front of the Disneyland hotel and get on the one taking us to Orange County, the one that picked us up in front of the hotel was going to LAX. Finally at the airport with a bit of ease and in line to get our tickets and check our bags. Mom entered her rewards number: error, maybe she just punched it in wrong. I put in my conformation number: error. How could there be an error? I knew I typed it in correctly, yay for there being someone there to help or we would have been confused for days, she put my name in and pop! Flight was canceled. For a couple seconds I thought she was kidding, but thinking now if she did that to someone I'm sure she'd get fired, so no way she was lying.
The flight was canceled, not delayed, canceled. Okay, then how do we get home. Well, the next flight going into SFO wasn't leaving for a good 4-5 hours. It was that or taking an early flight into an airport further from home, but we would have no way to get home. Thanks, but no. Instead we checked in for that later flight, checked our bags and with the advice of the woman who had told us that our flight was canceled to go else where and eat or something. "this place is boring". And after being here for
I believe her.
We did go across the street and have breakfast, because I was starving and wanted something more then a bag of airplane pretzels. No I wanted something more a pastry, a bagel a something. Across the street was ihop and El torrito. I was more in the mood for a breakfast then something Mexican, then again I don't even know if they were open (might have been). Anyway I had some pretty good strawberry and banana pancakes. After eating we came back to the airport, went through security, found our gate, and waited. I think mom was right, good thing she had a book and I had something to keep me busy. I had my ipod, my daily ken ken that I hadn't been doing while we were on vacation, and a binder with some paper. I wasn't really in the mood to draw though, but at least it was there. I had bought a deck of cards, but I'm pretty sure I packed them in the bag I checked. Of course I got a little bored faster. It was a way to long wait. I mean we were there and through security by 1 pm I guess. Our flight was originally scheduled for 4pm. I was pretty glad that I had my ipod touch and the airport has wireless. Check my email and got caught up on things, and then noticed I had an email from southwest. One saying that our morning flight was canceled. Of course we already knew that. Another said that our flight was delayed, to 5pm. Great, another hour in this airport.
I think I got bored pretty quick. I was listening to music and doing my ken ken, but after doing the four days worth I hadn't done, I was stuck with just my ipod. Waiting, waiting. Mom was just happy reading away, looks like she is going to finish the book by the end of the day. I would have brought a book, but the one I started was the last Harry Potter and I didn't want to wreck it any. After a while I realized that before we left I put a couple video's on my ipod, episodes of TV shows that I got off of itunes. Happy that I was smart enough to do it, but it was also hard to view the video because of the lighting. I got through the first episode and was kind of done with that. I wouldn't have minded listening, but it's a lot nicer to see the full screen too. Oh well, I tried.
I just settled with my ipod, moving around some. Sitting there for hours, you really should get up and stretch. Oh boy. When we realized that our 1:45 flight was canceled, mom had called dad and told him that he would be picking us up instead of mom and I taking super shuttle home because of dad being at work. When I found out that our flight was delayed until 5 I told him then. Maybe a quarter to five a plane pulled up, people got out, and we thought it was our flight. Oh. Oh. Oh. No. Southwest flight to....Dallas. Um, what about us. I mean it was so close to five why wouldn't it have been ours. Hopes were up, and then down again. Once more I checked my email and it said that our flight was once again delayed. Walking around the airport it said that our flight was delayed, but it didn't say anything about what time it would be coming to get us. Luckily the email did, delayed until 5:30. At least it isn't as long of a wait. Well, sort of.
I think mom and I spend more time in this airport then any other passenger would have. I mean if you find out that your flight is delayed or canceled you might go for a walk or go somewhere to eat, not spend 5 hours in the airport. We saw people come and go, and go and come, but we were just stuck. Bored out of my mind and mom with her head in the book. Although she did look up and mention that of all the people we could see around us not many were without some sort of electronic, and ipod, and ipad, a laptop, a cellphone, something. There was an old couple who were talking to each other, a father taking care of his baby, and maybe not much more then that. Wow, she wasn't kidding, most everyone had an electronic. Sometimes, though they are just an easier way to keep you occupied to text someone or listen to music, or surf the web, but a book could do the same thing.
Finally our flight came. Of course we got home a quarter to eight, but oh what a long day. I might just stay away from airplanes and airports for a while. That delay got to me and took away a day. Mom was joking when she was talking to someone about us being there and me maybe missing school. I'm pretty sure they would have gotten us home by the end of the day, but that was the longest delay, and longest wait, and I don't plan to do that again anytime soon.
Pictures and stories of our trip and vacation to come soon.
