Nine Favorite Things
I got inspired by a post from Half Baked Harvest, thinking hey I can do that too (without actually looking at was posted). After looking at it for some inspiration yesterday I see that her nine favorite things are closer to nine categories and nine things in each category. Not exactly what I was going for but it did give me some inspiration for maybe other posts.
This may also be a nine things that I'm into right now or that make me happy.
- Dry Shampoo
While out doing some grocery shopping I wondered down the shampoo isle looking for deals and other things and I saw a dry shampoo marked down. I had never used it before buying it, but had heard other people use it so I figured its on sale why not give it a try. It has probably been a month or two since buying it, and its not something I use every week let alone every day, but it seems to work. I have no used out the on sale brand I bought and bought a different kind when I went to get my hair cut last week. So if you're out there, and don't want to wash your hair every day (as I am that person sometimes) try dry shampoo, it might be worth trying.
It is a subscription box of tea. Honestly if it weren't for one of my college roommates I probably wouldn't drink tea as often as I do, or have such a stock of variety, or even be talking about this honestly. Back to the box... As an end of the year gift last year my employer sent a random scratch or you choose gift ranging from a variety of things, including a sipsby box. I could have gone with an infuser but felt the teas would suit me better. The initial box was a mixture of fruity, sweet and regular tea. Initially I was just happy with the tea and set it aside, but since I constantly buy tea I figured why not give this subscription a chance. Fill out a little quiz, preferred teas, caffeinated or non caffeinated, more sweet or dark, loose leaf (they will send bags if you don't have an infuser) or already in bags, and for $15 a month I get 15 cups of tea, four different flavors. Each box comes with a little card about each tea you get, how much caffeine, where the tea is from, how much to use, how long to steep, and a little bit about each of the teas.
- The middle of the month (days 15-20ish)
This may seem a little strange, but over the past nine to ten months I am probably checking Instagram constantly for an update around this time every month. Being over a thousand miles away from my only nephew is why, and honestly I could only imagine how my parents feel being even farther away. I may now understand why people post pictures of their kids so constantly to share with family, but I'm sorry to people from school I don't want to see fifteen pictures of your kids playing at the park, or doing this or doing that. And to any cousins who may be reading this, this complaint isn't about you, please keep posting pictures of your kids they are adorable, wish we were closer to see you guys and your kids more frequently.
Back to this face:
Wouldn't you want to see this face more frequently? This little boy keeps me going, gets me excited about this time of the month, because I get an update on him, and how he is doing, what he likes or may not like and see just how big he is getting. These updates are what I live for as a first time aunt.
- Arizona Sunsets/Sunrises
I moved out to Arizona beginning of the year and the sunrises here, blow me away. Were they always like this? Were sunrises/sunsets like this in California and I was just missing them? How does Arizona pull it off? I wake up before the sun comes up now, so there could be a chance that I was not even noticing the sky because it was clear and done rising when I left for work in California. Could be that where I was living there just wasn't enough open space and all the trees and houses and what not blocked the beauty of these sunrises, although there were a few good ones I remember, but honestly they were far and few. Arizona seems like they happen daily or at least weekly. The way the colors change from black/blue to yellow/orange just gives me all the feels, and if I didn't have to go to work when I caught the beautiful sky I would probably just sit outside with my morning cup of tea and take it all in.
- Wood Wick Candles
I got a wood wick candle as a gift a few years ago not even knowing they existed. If it wasn't obvious instead of a normal wick, it is made of wood, and when you light it it crackles. To me that first candle lasted a lot longer (or maybe we weren't lighting it too much) then other candles we have had. These candles smell great (not that other brands don't), the crackle is a nice/different touch to a candle also gives a little different feel to it, and besides lasting longer, I don't think they leave as much waste when they die. Hello! Its a candle that when its done burning you don't have extra wax just sitting around stuck at the bottom (I think), this is honestly a problem that all candles need to solve. It has been a while since I have had one out and used it, but I think it is about time to pull out that fall scented candle and get it lit.
- Grams Blanket
I have been out of my parents house since 2017, well maybe not completely out. Out that I am not living there in any way or form, but not completely in that a bunch of my stuff is still there and has been there. There was a second change of clothes, and hygiene products there that if I ever went to spend the night or was there for a holiday, I didn't need to pack too much (although most of that stuff was either very old and holey or just excess clothing or a spare brush). Since moving to Arizona, there may be more stuff there, or maybe a little less since we did do some cleansing before I moved. I do know there are still a few boxes of stuff from my California apartment that did not make it to Arizona just yet (mostly holiday decorations and maybe some books or games). Once again I'm a little off course, the blanket. Grams blanket never left my parents house for any of the moves, until June. I mean, this blanket was special, and is cherished I did not want anything happening to it, to get scratched up by the cats or ripped. I did want it to be the blanket that got dragged around the house when I'm cold (because yes I do that, and yes in Arizona it may still be cold when the AC is below 70).
When I went to visit my family I brought a few empty suitcases to haul stuff back with (thank you Southwest 2 bags fly free) and while I was packing my mom mentioned the blanket. I probably slept with it every time I came to visit as it was always on the bed. Then there was the picture of me and Gram and the blanket (probably why I cherish it). It was time for me to not be afraid of it getting ruined, and take it with me since now that I'm no longer in the same state, my likelihood of visiting parents/spending the night/use of now my blanket shrank to a mere couple times a year if that. So this blanket, and the picture came back with me. It now sits on our couch giving an extra comfort to well, mostly the cats use it, but when I go read its there for comfort, and that makes me smile.
- Cats in Boxes
Need I say more? Although it is a little more entertaining when they are smaller boxes or odd shaped boxes that you are like, no way they are going to fit, and then they somehow do. Its also the boxes from work that get a little more love then the toy boxes or food delivery boxes, or is that just because they get kept around a little longer?
- Colorful/Character Socks
I think the addiction came when I started at Stan State (or maybe a year in) when my roommates and I would go on a Target run. I feel we made that a thing before it was a thing. But anyway, we would roam around buying what we need, but also checking out the Spot at the front that had cute decorations and little Knick knacks that would help liven up our dorm room. One of those trips I bought a cheap pair of socks and roughly there the addiction began. No more plain white or black socks now I can have purple toes and a green heal, or have a purrito (cat burrito) on the top or some writing on the bottom. I am addicted, and I am not afraid to say it. Each day is a different sock, a different color, a different thing on it, I even have some Harry Potter socks.
We had someone training the last couple months at work, and she's had some very interesting socks too, although hers are a bit longer, as we need work boots, but I think she is on the same page in the love of socks with things on them. I now have a new place to go get socks too thanks to her.
- Puzzles!
I think my first post in this series mentioned being excited about puzzles coming. Guess what, they just got here! So now its not excited about them coming, its excited about doing. Started this year off doing a puzzle, and I have been looking for more puzzles to do that weren't boring or plain or just too easy to do. They needed to be good, not a puzzle I'll do once and then never do again. I think I got some good ones, and now that they are here I'm going to go work on them!
*Disclosure: I just want to say that doing nine things is a lot harder then it initially seemed, five was easy so sorry if the last four weren't as good. And in no way was this a hey go check out all of these things that I like and spend your money on them too kind of a blog (although not everything is purchasable) but don't spend your money this is just me sharing.
