That's Twice
At the beginning of the year/January my Humanities Professor assigned us to have a notebook.
He gave us prompts on the days we had classes, and the instructions were to write in it even when we were not prompted.
I remember him saying that it would be a nice thing to have. That at a time when you needed it most you could grab it and write down your thoughts instead of going ahead with your schedule you stop and write about how you're feeling, what your thoughts are. The other thing was that you had to physically have it. I mean you need to physically have a notebook and not just go to your computer and start typing. There is a reason so that you can show your emotions, that you don't lose your train of thought by putting something in bold or italic that using a pencil or pen you could write it big and keep going.
I don't think I really understood what he meant or completely understood until about a month ago. I was in a situation which just made my head spin with thoughts afterwards, it was pretty late when the situation ended and I got time. At the time I just wanted to write everything that happened down. I was going to type it, but realized that it would be better for my thought flow to grab a pen and paper and just write it out. And I did just that, it helped kind of ease my mind and it felt great.
Then about a week ago it happened again. I was leaving for a long drive and had lots to think about and lots going on in my head. This time I wanted to write, no doubt about it, my only problem was that there wasn't a pen/pencil/any writing utensil near by or a piece of paper. That was the disappointing part. My head was just buzzing with thoughts and there was no where to put them.
I think this might actually be a good thing for me, and I think my Professor was right. It might be nice to keep a notebook handy for occasions like that.
