The 4th

This year my fourth of July was a little different then most, besides the fact that I was working most of the night and missed most of the fireworks, it was a lot different than I expected.  It was a day I probably wouldn't trade for anything, I mean it wasn't anything to special, but it made me forget that I had work later on in the day, and it made me smile.
My friend had come to visit me, and come explore the town a little.  He had never been to San Mateo so it was somewhat up to me to show him around and explore a little.  All the pressure happened to be on me, showing someone around who had never been here, and trying to make sure it was fun and that it wasn't boring.  The problem was that since he hadn't been there, there was a lot we could have done, but since he had already taken an hour plus drive to come visit, I thought it best to not go to the beach this time.
My final decision was to find some place downtown to eat, maybe walk around a little, and then go to Coyote Point see the animals, the water and explore, it sounded fun enough.  I mean when you think about it our downtown probably has anything and everything you might want to eat there, and a little variety of each place too.  We met at the parking garage and just started walking some, we ended up going to one of my favorite mexican food places for burritos, but we also passed a couple others along the way.  The place was a little packed so we walked a little further to the park and found a bench to sit at. We ate, talked ended up feeding the birds a little bit, and then walked through the park, who knew it was going to be packed with people?  Actually I'm sure everyone did, there was probably a mention of the activities going on in the newspaper I wasn't interested in reading, but it was still fun to walk by and see the booths and hear the music.  We walked more downtown, exploring a little more and walking by shops I had never known were there, or existed.  Then again I'm an in and out kind of person, unless I'm looking for a new place to eat downtown I don't usually look around and see whats new.
After wondering downtown, we got back to our cars and headed towards Coyote Point. My idea was that it was something a little different, and something a little unexpected.  I mean there is the bay front where you could walk for hours (and get a little blown away), animals, little exhibits, and science-y things.  What I'm a nerd, I like those kinds of things. Anyway, it was a treat being able to see the animals and such seeing as how I was there a year ago, and didn't really have a chance to.
The day itself, for being simple was the best fourth I could have asked for (at least before I had to head to work).  Definitely a good day.  Sorry no pictures.
