5 Things
Two things made this come to mind: One leaving my house after blowing out a candle 30 minutes earlier and it smelling a little like smoke and two a passage in a book where they were downsizing and the father couldn't narrow down the books he ultimately had to live without. Here comes my thought process as I am driving along: if there was a fire and I could only grab five things from my room what would I grab? This took some thinking and maybe a rule or two, such as the necklace and ring I wear constantly wouldn't count as I never take them off, my cats shouldn't count as I hope they would walk out themselves if this event ever did happen, and lastly wallet/keys are not acceptable or should not be counted even though if there was a fire some form of identification would be good.
So there is a fire, what do I grab?
- My Quillow: Grammie made that quillow for me, it was one of my Christmas eve gifts many years ago, and while it does need a little fixing she put love into making it and it is not something I am willing to part with.
- My OS Bear: No I did not go to Oregon State, but it was the first thing my boyfriend gave me when he came back from Oregon. It makes me feel close to him during those times when we are far apart.
- A Book: It may not be the most important thing, and right now I don't know if I'd grab a book I have already read or a book that I have yet to read. Books have become a bigger part of my life, and while it may not be the most important thing in my room, I would think a book would give me some way to start a new and give me a place to run when a fire has just occurred.
- 100 Things I Heart About You: It was initially in Grams office, I'm not sure who made it or who gave it to her, but I admired it. It now hangs right near the entrance of my door, and I have been looking at it more lately, getting inspired by it and somewhat wishing I could make my own.
- Hawaii deck of cards: I just happen to have a collection of different decks of cards and different card games, some of which I play often some of which I have never played. The Hawaii deck, I guess it is nothing special, but when we were in Hawaii nine years ago I bought two, one for me and one as a souvenir for someone who never got it. I think both of them are still in good shape, and have nice cases. I'd say these decks started me on my collection of decks of cards from different places.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Through all of this my thought process went from is five too many things, to how can I only pick just five! So while I've got my top five, here are a couple honorable mentions.
- My Scrapbook: Something that Grammie had made, put some heart and time into it. I remember her sending us sheets to fill out when I was younger to send back to her so that she could put them inside. Since then I've added pages and become a reasonable scrapbooker myself (or at least I hope) so it would be devastating to see this gone, and possibly have to start over.
- My Notebook: While I have many from being a student there is a notebook or two I would like to take. They may have special meanings, like the one we decorated that the camping fairy had given us, or may have special thoughts in them. Writing and reading have somewhat become a bigger part of my life the past five years or so.
- Funny Bunny: My first stuffed animal, I slept with him for years, maybe longer than I want to admit, he kept the nightmares away when I was little and now he still kind of watches over me while I sleep. He is a little worse for wear, but I would like to hope that he will make it with me.
- The Fishing Music Box: I'll admit it is pretty heavy, and I might end up grabbing something a little lighter but still fishing related for obvious reasons. When Gram and Gramp passed I wanted something of Gramps that had to do with fishing, because a lot of my memories being with Gramp had to do with camping and fishing. I ended up getting a few different things related to fishing, but for some reason the music box stands out the most.
- My bulletin board: Maybe you remember me posting about it once or twice while I was at school, changing each year with different pictures, events going on at school and different things I had done. Did I blog about it my last year, I'm not even sure. It is currently against the wall at the end of my bed, with almost everything still attached to it from when I officially moved out of school. It is a reminder of many of the things I did my last year, and I wouldn't mind adding more to it as the years go on to show everything that has happened and that will happen.
