World Beat Groove
Wednesday night my professor canceled class and instead wanted as many bodies in the theater as possible, at least enough to fill it I would say.
He had been planning this for a while I think. There were fliers up and around school advertising this event and even a couple around town. I want to say he does this each semester, because I remember him saying something about last time how many people had attended and wanted to get close to that.
I don't think it was anything that I expected. It started out with the drums, which is the most primal of all instruments. Each drummer came up one at a time and joined in.

They played about four songs and then the next song before they started said that it was okay to get up and move. The hidden surprise was that some of the students (my classmates and others from his classes) were going to get up at some point and start a conga line. My professor had bought us all boa feathers to show colors and festivity, and we got up and danced.
Then came the band. Well actually there was a little lecture about music and its importance, a few definitions and origins of types of music, and a few videos like this one. Then was the band. And if I didn't mention my professor is the one in the blue robe type thing "El Professor".
It was lots of fun!
Of course once the song ended we went back to our seats and enjoyed the rest of the performance. The last song, though everyone was invited back on stage, the drummers who had started it, and then the conga line dancers. It was a fun way to end the night, and I'd say if he has it next semester I want to go see it again, even if I'm not one of the conga dancers.
