Waiting

Today I went to the DMV to register my car and pick up the plates. I think I might have spent an extra twenty minutes there because I wasn't thinking or looking at what was in my hands.

I left the house around 10 am and was on my way. My mom told me the day before that I could walk in hand them the papers, fill others out and they would hand me the plates. And that is what should have happened.
Instead I drive there, get a number, wait for my number to be called then walk up. The thing is at the same time my number was being called the number before mine was also being called, to the same counter I was called to. So I had to wait for that person to finish before I walked up.

Then I just handed her what I had, and said I need to get licence plates. I had printed out a paper and filled it out that said that I needed new plates, there was one that I was missing though. I filled that out quickly and then she asked me a couple questions. A few to verify what I had written, and then there was one where she asked if the car had been smogged. I stupidly said NO. Something in my mind had told me that the car wasn't smogged, so I thought it hadn't been. I then paid for my buying the car, which was a big ouch out of my bank account. The car was a bigger one, but to see even more gone kind of sucked.
She then handed me a temporary thing and asked me to go confirm my car and come back when the car was smogged. My thoughts were, my mom was wrong, I have to get the car smogged first. Of course, I didn't look at the papers in my hand that said my car had a smog.

So I went out and got my car verified. Then drove home thinking that I still needed to get the smog. I think I was a couple blocks away when my mom called and sounded confused when I told her I didn't have the plates. I told her it needed to be smogged. She told me that it was, it showed in the paper work that it was. So, I felt stupid, and turned around and drove back to the DMV.
This time the line to get a number was longer, and the waiting seemed longer too. Then I finally got called and had everything ready. Papers out, since I just had them, and was just there. Here you are all the papers I don't want to see again. She said to go to window number 1 and they would hand me my plates. Yay! That is what I wanted to hear! Thank you!

Drove off happy with plates and stickers.
