Chunks of My History

As I was in search of an English assignment from the beginning of the semester I found this:

My History

Chunks of my history passed me by. I saw an eight year-old girl standing in her brownie uniform, I saw a ten-year-old in her red top, black shorts and tap shoes dancing around I saw a sixteen-year-old girl sitting in a crowded car going to the beach. I saw my sisters being crazy and my parents trying to get my attention. My life was flashing by me in just a few seconds, a storm of what I had gone through and what will still happen. There was teachers, ones I hated and the ones I loved, classmates, and people from down the street. There was my neighbor Samantha who had passed away with cancer, there was Holden Caulfield, Romeo and Juliet, George Washington and Anne Frank. There were little children, some I recognized and other looked familiar but I had never met them. There was my high school dance team dancing away, the rival football game of my senior year, and the memory of the saddest day of my life. There was me walking down the isle getting married to the one I love. I saw my cousins, my Aunts and Uncles, and there were my grandparents being so kind. There was me in my freshman year in high School singing with the choir in New York having a great time. I saw a two-year-old playing hide and go seek, an eleven-year-old saying good bye to her best friend. It was like a family reunion, seeing all the family I had met and those who I have never met. I saw Jason Segel, Ellen Page, the comedians Mitch Fatel and Jim Gaffigan, there was Paramore and Taylor Swift, the Beatles and Rolling Stones. I saw my own kids playing in the water and the guy I liked smiling back at me. Suddenly everything had stopped and everyone was gone.

I only picked it up to move it to a different spot, but then my eyes couldn't stop reading the lines, the words that I had once written. I know it was for an assignment for English in high school, but it caught me a little off guard. What was it about? What was the purpose? I do want to know!
