Two years and Two days
That is how long it has been since our family friend and neighbor Samantha passed away.
I remember it almost as if it was yesterday. It was my junior year, and a Wednesday. I was walking in the door, and at that moment the phone message from my friend had ended. I didn't go listen to the message thinking that it was not for me. And I guess Joliene didn't listen to it when she realized it was not for her. I just went on with my regular afternoon ritual of feeding the cats (maybe) and getting myself a snack and then heading on to my homework.
There was busy work down the street we didn't think much of it at the time. They had people come and visit them all the time. We didn't think that there was a reason all them were there.
It wasn't unit my mom got home that the message was played. It was from my friend Amanda. The message was something like this: "Hey Carrie, I don't know if you heard, but this girl Sammy who went to middle school with us has passed away today. I thought you should know, they said that she lived close to your neighborhood. Call me."
It was hard to believe "It can't be! It just can't!" I tried hard not to think of it, I tried to do my homework, but I couldn't do it. My mind was thinking and moving around.
It was the hardest on Tanya, she was at work or school when the rest of us heard the message. So a little after she got home, my mom walked over to her and told her the news. Tanya was close to Sammy and close friends with her older sister. She was just so sad, she just started crying. Later that night, Tanya walked down the street to see how it was going. She knew that she should be there with them.
We all miss you and think of you often Sammy!
