Preview Day Blog

Here is what I submitted as a blog for participating in Preview day:

I have to say, I didn't really know what to expect having never gone to Preview day myself.  I did think it was going to be a lot busier then it was, and maybe because I took the second shift of the day it slowed down quite a bit.  There were plenty of booths to go to, and maybe ours wasn't exactly what people were looking for, but if I was the one walking by, blogging might have caught my eye. I’m not exactly one to approach a table full of people ready to give me their spiel, but I’m not most people, and lucky for me I was the one on the other side of the table.

I’m not scared to say that I was nervous at the least.  I took a step out of my comfort zone and didn't die.  If you didn’t know I’m a very shy person who talks pretty quietly, so this was kind of a big step.  I was scared as to what to say, and just a little quieter then usual when I first got there.  Marilu (a current student blogger) did a good job of explaining what to do, and after seeing her do it once or twice I felt comfortable enough to do it myself.  I guess you could say she gave me a little push when the next group of people came by, let the potential bloggers take a stab at talking to everyone, and I think I did pretty well on my own.  The little talk seemed to come naturally; my mouth took control and didn't stop until I was done.  I was thrilled and there were no mistakes, at least if there were the people I was telling didn't know that.  The little bit of nervousness was gone, and I felt as though I could do it for hours.  It should have come naturally, and why not I’m more then happy to let younger students know about the blogging students do for the school and get them interested in reading it to get a better feel for the school from a student prospective.  I mean why not?

Being right across from the speaker didn't help though, I talk pretty quietly, so there were a couple times I had to project my voice.  Seems strange talking to someone two feet from you, but in a somewhat yell to be heard.  I wasn't actually yelling, because I’m sure that would have scared them away, but talking louder then I usually do in a conversation type situation.  The day went by pretty slowly a little group of people every 10-15 minutes or so, it was nice, but I do wish there were a few more that came by I was ready to talk, and maybe they just weren't ready to listen.  It’s a little harder to bring in people just to attack them with information not everyone was interested and it was hard to know who had already approached our booth, and who was walking by for the first time.

We did get a chance to run over and take a picture with Titus while we waited.  It only took a second, and we let one of the guys from the next table watch over ours while we walked away.  No one had approached the table, and I’m sure it wouldn't have fallen apart anyway.  I guess the other thing besides getting a picture, and taking a couple pictures was that we talked to each other a little, got to know who the other potential bloggers were and chatted some.  It’s always nice to know who you are working with and who you might be working with in the future.

This day wasn't the terrifying audition I thought it was going to be.  It was fun, got me interactive in the schools community, and let high school students know about what this school has to offer.  I met new people, and stepped out into something I had never done before and enjoyed it.  All and all I think today was a pretty good day and something I’m glad I was a part of.

I would hope it was different enough and said a little something about me to let me become a student blogger.
