NSO

also known as New Student Orientation. I went last week. Learned the drive (at least the one there) and it was hot. We drove down mid day the day before and were going to do the overnight orientation to somewhat get another look at the campus and get a first look at the dorms. We weren't going to wake up at, I'd say 4:30 AM to leave about an hour later to get there for check in at 7. Yeah, doesn't exactly sound like fun, which is why we did the whole overnight thing.

It was fun. Mom was separated into the adult area, they got a tour around town and a tour around campus while the 15 students doing overnight got to know each other some and played some games.

After eating we all went to the movies, had the choice of about 5 or 6 movies to choose from and we each got to choose. Then we went to get frozen yogurt. Brain Freeze!

The next morning was a wake up call bright and early. You could say I didn't get the usual hours of sleep to condone a good nights sleep, you could also say for it being summer I didn't want to be up that early when I could be sleeping in. There was check in, a division into groups based on last name and into freshman and transfers, there was an orientation meet and greet with a virtual tour and then into talks about graduation requirements, transfer stuff, and more testing.

Of course that was only the first part, there was also a campus showcase where we kind of got to see some of the clubs and fraternities and sororities along with lunch. Then we got to ask questions to students and a couple staff members about how to be successful, and perspectives. There was also talk of financial aid and how to pay bills online so you don't get dropped from classes, that is IMPORTANT.

Then one more division into majors and to the main buildings we would be taking our classes in and get advised about how much we have to do before we get our degrees, then we could finally register for classes. YAY!
School was done for the day, I was hot, hungry and tired and wanted to go home. Move in day is less then two months away and school starting is about two months away. This will be interesting and exciting being somewhere new.
