A Visit to Chico
Planning and planning couldn't have helped. Actually we did plan. I know had free weekends, and even then mom had asked for Friday and Saturday off of work so we could go visit Chico. We had it planned, and then a week or so before as I was going to schedule our guided tour I ran into a problem. There was no tour.
After a 3 + hour drive we were finally in Chico. The school was huge. Or at least decently big. It was converted in with the town or kind of mixed in. But the school was pretty big. The only problem was that for a Friday, even if it was like three in the after noon it was pretty quiet, at least on campus it was. It was like campus was dead.
There were these statues that looked like they were sculpted or that the design was created and then the mixture was poured in to. I think all of the statues had faces. Faces all over.
It was a nice visit. Good campus visit. Nice to have a comparison.
Seemed a little awkward since it wasn't their spring break, and it said that they were doing extreme tour planning because of many schools having spring break within the next few weeks. Nothing made sense. If they were giving tours why not on the days we had planned to be there the 30th or 31st (which would have been better).
Thinking. Thinking.
We decided might as well go visit the school even if it isn't toured just to get a little bit of feeling of the school so I can make up my mind or have that comparison of the two.
Friday morning. We pack our bags thinking we might over night it there. I go to my first class, drop off homework in the other class and wait for mom to come and get me. And we're on the road headed for a 3+ hour drive up to Chico.
Now I'm about to admit to something that is a little embarrassing, although I was young so thats a good excuse. But at some point in my younger years someone in my family convinced me that cows, yes cows were Big Dogs. I don't know what the logic behind it was, or how long it lasted, but I did for a while think cows were big Dogs. Now it seems anytime were on a road trip and see cows there is a comment about them being dogs.
After a walk around, look at buildings try to get inside to a few, but we couldn't they were locked. The book store was closed, the admissions office was closed, no building we tried to get into was open. I think it was the bell tower we tried to get into, someone was approaching the door, which was locked and let us in. Looked a little inside signs on the wall, and then there was one saying that Friday the 30th they were celebrating Ceaser Chavez day. Which kind of explains everything, why there was no tour, why the campus was dead, and why everything was closed and locked.
Its okay, it didn't stop us from looking around and taking out own little tour. My mom was quite enjoyable trying to be the tour guide. The roses on the grounds, that were planted to make the grounds have a little more life in them.
There was a little stream where I guess you could perform on one side of the water and watch the stage from the other. Or do what we saw a few people doing sitting and relaxing, maybe doing homework or some nice reading.
