The Tale of Travels

The family together spent a week in Utah, since that is where they live and where he was going to be buried. My dad had left Friday night since he got the first phone call (and it was his dad). He dropped everything at work and ran home. I was surprised as anyone that my dad was home early. I had only come home to pick up my sister and go drop her off to get my mom since my mom broke her foot. When I came home from work is when I heard the news, that he had passed away. One of the saddest news anyone can get is that someone they love has passed away, and the fact that we didn't get to say good bye must have been the hardest part. My sisters, my mom and I didn't arrive until Sunday, and that is where this begins.

We arrived in Utah in little to no time. Oh, did I mention I somehow got through airport security without my Drivers License. Well I did, my high School ID, thank goodness I had it, and my debit card worked enough. It's either after 16 or 18 that you should have an ID of some sort, but I couldn't help it. When we were getting ready in the morning I thought I was, doing this, doing that. I checked my wallet, and the slot my Drivers license is usually in there was only the High School ID. I emptied my entire wallet, money, cards and all. No Sign of it. I also checked pockets of pants and sweatshirts, and emptied my purse inside out. Nothing. It's weeks later and I still don't know.

Anyhow...
So although the travels went well, mom had somehow misplaced an earring. That also no where to be found. And as we were walking off the plane to baggage claim, I learned something. That I apparently walk fast, or at least not slow enough. Even though I was holding my backpack full of books, a side bag with a second pair of shoes and a sweatshirt and my mom's laptop case I was still walking faster. Then when you think about it, they may have been taking their time because of my mom being in crutches and walking slow. Sorry, but it's in my nature to walk fast I can't help it. Next time don't break your foot mom! Remember that it isn't smart to do such things.

We got our bags and mom had called dad to say we were done and ready. She was talking and saying that we were right before terminal two, but of course mom we had to cross the street first to passenger pick up and there is different labels there. Might have been a little difficult for dad. Well, actually it was since on our plane was also the BYU boys volleyball team, they were kind of in the way. We had seen dad as he drove up and passed us and he as you might be able to infer, didn't see us. The BYU Volleyball team was obstructing the view and we a little in the way. Joliene was trying to get his attention and pass through the big crowd, but that didn't work. Mom had to call dad back and say "you passed us!"

He made another circle and made sure to spot us correctly. Everyone and everything in the car and to Grandmothers house we go! I was excited, one problem mom thought that we were going the wrong way though. Saw a sign and was like, this way. Dad knew what he was doing he was driving, and knew how to get to Grams house the right way. But I have to say I am very excited. Snow, real snow and I haven't seen it forever. SNOW! I couldn't be any happier, and any sadder at the same time.

Got to Grams and she even had snow on the lawn. Eeep! Anyway... Tirzah and Bri were there, along with Emerson. The Shirley/Sykes were downstairs, and Gram was napping in her room up stairs. We weren't trying to be noisy, but I'm sure that didn't matter, loads of luggage and doors opening, someones gonna hear it. Of course I think I was the first one to hear/ see Gram. We had brought in the luggage and I heard her. Ran back up stairs and was so happy to see her.

It was only 20 minutes in or so when one of Grams sisters came in. Twink with some of her family. Of course with things like this you figure many, many visitors coming and going in the next few days and family coming of course. Then a neighbor from across the street came, like I said many visitors were coming. Good catch up.

Mom and Dad needed to head to Mens Warehouse since Dad didn't have a suit. They left, and minutes later came back. It was Sunday, the store was closed. But you know, the hard thing was it's hard to remember, SUNDAY. Right. Tomorrow was the next bet, lets hope it works right?

Dinner was at the Shirley's. We had some spinach salad, yummy grilled pork with lime and some other sauce, there were delicious potatoes, corn with some flavor, and strawberry and marshmallow mix of deliciousness. The food was good and something different and a little new. Sorry mom and dad but to me it seems like we're always eating the same thing over and over again, it was good to have something different. Then dessert, delicious brownies made from scratch. Oh so good.

During the process of helping put things away and getting dessert I had the urge to slide across their floor. I was in socks and it seemed so easy. It would have been so much fun just to slide across, and every time I walked I was tempted, but alas I did not. After dinner we got to hear and sing the song we were going to be singing at Grampies funeral service. It was a very nice song, and easy to learn. Gramp would love to hear us sing all the cousins together, and I know we were all happy to do it. It sounded pretty good, at least that's what mom said, the only thing was we were missing the only male voice and Corinne. They'll be here within the next 24 hours hopefully.

While we were practicing most of the adults were just sitting around and chatting a bit. When we were done mom let me hold Emerson, since she was the one holding him first and I guess she was done. Yay! There was a little baby who had just turned a month old and he was in my arms. Aww. I just kept looking at him, he was only sleeping but he was just so cute. I wanted to take him with me, but of course he wasn't mine. What a cute little baby.

Of course while I was doing that conversations were going all over and changing quite frequently. We were talking of dreams, scary and other wise, there was TV shows like Psych, bones and the Office. There were quotes going around the room and a few jokes to. Tirzah took blood pressure of mom, dad and Gram. Then Jenna and Mattea were playing with dice, building stuff or making some pattern. Just a busy little bunch doing things left and right. Sometime during these conversations Tirzah came over and told me that my letter had come a few days earlier and they did read it to Gramp. I was happy that it did get there in time. Made me happy, but I was crying.

We had to eventually leave since the Bishop was going to Grams house to talk to her. Again we weren't thinking straight, since while the adults went to see the Bishop the cousins could hang out and catch up. Wait! It was Sunday, the Shirley's had school the next day well school or work. They needed sleep. The Bishop wasn't going to be able to be there for Gramps service, but wanted to send his condolences to Gram. Eventually we had to say Good night. Joi and her family aren't getting in until tomorrow. Gram had called, they had hit a little bit of a delay and big traffic trouble, and adding to that Joi lost her voice. Let's hope she can get it back by Wednesday. Have a good and safe travel guys. We'll see you soon enough.

Bed time was interesting. Mom and dad were in the water bed room, then it was the three girls and what we were going to do. There was the pull out bed from the couch, the side couch, and the floor. I wasn't going to fight anyone for anything so who ever wanted the bed could have it. Joliene got the bed, I got the side couch, and Tanya of her own will took the floor in Gramps office. I don't think she was ready for all of this at once, and seeing how we haven't shared a room in over two years it is a little bit of an adjustment that needs to be made. Good night everyone, and have a good sleep.
