The Detail
One thing we do in life is not pay attention to detail a lot. To think about what we are doing but instead just doing it as a habit and nothing more then that.
For example, when rushing your teeth all most of use are thinking is I have to brush my teeth to keep them clean. What you might not notice is the strange sound brushing your teeth makes, how it sounds different in your mouth then it does outside. Did you notice the sound of the water trickling down the drain after you spit out the toothpaste.
Those little details after a while just seem like a nothing, you don't notice it like you may have the first time you ever turned on the faucet or how you always push from the end of the toothpaste instead of the middle or top.
I had never noticed the sound of a knife against the toasted bagel until a few days ago. Most of the time I'm just thinking about how the knife is swiping the bread to make the peanut butter or cream cheese move from one surface to the next. How strange it was when I heard it again for the first time, paying attention to the sound the motion and everything around me. Some things that may have prevented me from hearing the sound the last time or just distracted me. The heater and the coffee maker would have blocked the noise and the cats wondering around would have been a distraction to prevent me from paying attention to the swipes.
It was the strangest, but pretty interesting to realize what I had not listened for or realized before.
