A Weekend in San Francsico

My sister had gone out of town for a weekend, and asked me to watch her place and feed her cats, I of course was more then happy to do so especially since I've never really had a chance to explore that side of San Francisco.  I had from Wednesday evening until mid day Sunday to explore and have some fun.

Wednesday for me was more of a get there safely, and relax kind of a day.  I had worked until 7 or 8 that night, then came and got my things before driving to the city, I really didn't want to do anything anyway.
Thursday is where my adventure began, after popping breakfast in my mouth, and getting ready I started out.  I wasn't exactly sure where I was heading I just decided to walk up (at least it felt up), it seemed like I passed a million stores: food places, markets, laundry, banks.  It all seemed like a blur, and I was just a little to nervous to walk into some of these places because I wasn't sure what to expect, so I just kept walking for a while.
My thing is that unless I'm in the mood to do shopping, I don't really want to walk in the store and browse.  The thing is I'm not usually in the mood to do shopping, that being said I walked into one of my sisters favorite stores to look around and shop.  The people there were really nice and friendly, it seemed like every time I found something I wanted to try on they soon took it out of my hand and added it to my section.  They also did a little searching themselves for things they thought I might like based on what I had already picked out.  I definitely want to give them some praise, very good service, very friendly and helpful, and I ended up buying a few things.  I'd love to go back and do some more shopping.

Of course shopping meant one thing, I now had a bag that I was carrying around while I explored some.  It wasn't something I had thought about, and while it wasn't a big bag I didn't want to walk around the park with it in my hand.  So then came a quick detour back to the apartment, which wasn't to bad some more quick food, and I was headed to the park.
They live pretty close to Golden Gate Park, and until I started walking I don't think I realized how big the park was.  I think I knew it was bigger then most parks, but Golden Gate park is about 50 blocks in length (I think), it was huge!  I just decided to walk, and walk, and walk, turn here and turn there, and hopefully I could find something good.
And hey first I found a stream, and once I followed that stream I found this:
It was beautiful. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was perfect. Something nice and calm, something you probably wouldn't see in any other park (at least none others I've been in).  Yes it almost seemed perfect.
Of course I kept walking, there was more to see, more than I knew there was to see. There is still more for me to see because I was just walking, not really knowing what to look for.
Now I do, and I will be back to see the rose gardens, the museums, the academy of sciences, the buffalo and well everything else.
I had walked around the park for a couple hours I think, and saw a lot, and wanted to stop for a couple things, but it was actually getting late, and I needed to get back.  How to get back was slightly the challenge, I had wandered the park, gone left, right, up and down I knew I had gone far, just not sure how far, I needed to find the road.  After a little looking, following some people, and some cars I found the road I wanted, the bad thing was, that I had another mile or so to get back. I was okay with more walking, but my feet had other ideas, every time I stopped and had to wait for a crossing light, my feet complained, but there wasn't much I could do I had to get back, and had to walk back, there was no other way, relaxing and getting off of my feet wasn't going to happen any other way.

When I got back my sisters neighbor had asked for a little help, she was doing a little redecorating and needed a second person to help take measurements.  Afterwards we ate some sushi, and talked some, she was actually the one that told me about the museum and Academy of Sciences in the park that I missed, to bad I hadn't talked to her earlier right? She did tell me a couple other places outside of the park to visit, and how to get there, very nice and helpful, and made my plans for the next day easier.

Friday I had a plan.  I had a pretty good plan, and since I was limited on time I was determined to get things done.  My first stop was breakfast at Art's, a small little hole in the wall place that we had gone to in December, so I wanted to go back.  I knew the food was good, and this time I had to try the hash brown sandwich.  Yum, yum, yum!
I don't think I had planned to eat it all, but I did, and it was worth it. I may have looked a little like I was starving, and maybe because of all the walking I needed calories to burn and the food just did the spot.  After eating I headed up more, I had a walking map in my head of where to go, or at least what streets were mentioned the night before. New streets, new sights, and new stores to look at and explore.  It was definitely a different part of town, it wasn't exactly what I had seen before, maybe a little older part of town.  I was in Haight-Ashbury, the hipster part of town, my style really isn't hipster but it was still a good spot to walk around and look at the different stores.
My somewhat late breakfast held me for the rest of my exploring, and I had to head back, take a breather before having to head to work.

I actually didn't get back to San Francisco until Saturday night because of my crazy Friday night/Saturday morning shift at work.  Don't worry the cats still got fed, but that also limited what I could do Saturday since exploring at night alone isn't really smart no matter what city you are in.  Saturday night was pretty calm, went to the bar around the corner got a drink and some food, and watched the Giants game.  After the long day at work, I was happy to be able to do nothing.

Sunday wasn't much of an exploring day either.  A little bit of sleeping in, packing (as it was my last day) and some more relaxing.  Between the combination of all the walking the previous days, and the fact that I'd been on my feet 8 hours each day at work, my feet and my legs were happy to take it easy some.  The cats were happy to, either they missed me while I was gone or missed someone being there.  They wanted some love and some attention, and I was happy to give them some.
Now that I'm back home I almost miss these guys, since they actually got used to me after a couple days and didn't go running every time I walked in.
