Biology

I'd say its been a pretty good year.
With my biology class came of course the bumble bee project I shortly mentioned in my there was a bee in my room post, and then there were also labs. The first one we did was a little tedious opening 10 little dried pods and measuring all of the seeds. Once that was over each week we had a lot of fun.
We had some interesting labs where we went through owl pellets to see what they had eaten. It was a little stinky, but kind of fun to see the little skulls and jaw bones. We learned about the Plant Kingdom and animal kingdom and had to draw quite a few things.

The last lab we had was just Wednesday, and it was an outdoors type lab. We drove to see the Woodland habitats to the Pulgas Ridge Open Space Reserve. It was a little bit of a hike, actually it was a decent hike. Walk all the way up stop and look around. Then walk down a trail to stop at the bottom.

We observed the different oak trees in the area and the differences in the soil that make them grow where they grow. We also saw the nest I guess built by the Dusky-footed Woodrat, the animal itself is nocturnal so we didn't get to see it. It was great weather for doing this walk, but oh was I exhausted and glad that I had water. I think it was a somewhat nice way to end our last lab of the semester.
