Experimentation
My experience with making cupcakes is little to nothing. So when I wanted to make someone cupcakes for their birthday, my mind went a little crazy. I wanted to make cupcake layers, add in a filling, do something then just make cupcakes. That was a little hard to do with my lack of knowledge and the fact that I'm sure I needed more then one box to make it in layers, and the fact that I was making cupcakes out of a box didn't help either.
I went to Target looking more for chocolate for me, and maybe sprinkles to put on the cupcakes. Instead my mind did a little more wondering and I thought hmm. Maybe I could put a little treat inside the cupcakes or something. It was like I got two birds with one stone. Crabbed a couple different bags of M&M's and a bag of mini Reese's cups, some for me, and some for the cupcakes.

My first batch of cupcakes took a little time, and a lot of a mess. It had been a while since I had make cupcakes so pouring the first few into the tray was an experience. Also trying to figure out in which way was I going to put something in the cupcakes that seemed tricky. I tried placing some at the bottom (although I wanted it straight in the middle) and some m&m's at the top.
Of course I couldn't make cupcakes without also picking up liners for the cupcakes.
Yes, we may have had some at home, but these looked cute.
So many questions going on in my head: how would it end up? will it taste bad? Will it bake all the way?

And of course I had to find out what happened and even if it ended up okay. That is a Reese's cup straight at the bottom. I was my own guinea pig, and it tasted fine to me, just a hint of peanut butter. Of course the final touches they all had icing on them, and they were good.
They look pretty good to me.

If you have an abundance of Thin Mints, try that one. Flo and I made them (chocolate mix, a few drops of peppermint extract added, and stick the cookie in the middle or on top (we mixed it up and did both).
